Organic Master Gardener and OwnerSusan !
Susan, a first-generation Canadian, developed a deep love for gardening from an early age. Each summer in Hafford, Saskatchewan, with her Ukrainian grandparents (Baba and Dido), she immersed herself in tending to and harvesting a diverse garden that provided sustenance for multiple families throughout the seasons. Her education included planting, harvesting, storage, canning, and the cherished art of crafting her grandmother's homemade bread.
Reflecting on the past, Susan fondly wishes her grandmother could witness today's vast array of plants, seeds, and the astonishing variety of fabrics in stores – a significant departure from the past. As a proud Edmontonian, Susan's executive career spanned 10 cities worldwide, with her favorite place being Bend, Oregon. Despite her corporate pursuits, her lifelong passion for creating beautiful gardens led her to earn an Organic Master Gardening Certificate during her evenings. With a vision centered on urban beautification and nurturing a better world through gardening, Susan became an Organic Master Gardener.
While still immersed in the corporate world, Susan dreamt of transforming her gardening passion into a second career and life. The opportunity finally arose, prompting her to bid farewell to the corporate realm and fully embrace her dream – thus, The Wheelbarrow Gardener!
Presently, Susan serves as a dedicated board member for the Master Gardeners Association of Alberta (MGAA), generously contributing her time and expertise as a volunteer. Additionally, she actively shares her love for gardening through her membership in the Edmonton Horticultural Society, Alberta Native Plant Council, and Edmonton Native Plant Society. Beyond her horticultural pursuits, Susan is an avid supporter of rescue dogs, demonstrating her passion as a proud advocate and contributor to the Canadian Animal Blood Bank. Feel free to inquire about her beloved dog, Gabriel, who plays a special role as a blood donor.
Susan finds immense satisfaction in imparting her horticultural expertise, actively contributing to the community. Specializing in crafting vibrant garden masterpieces with robust perennials suited to the unique Edmonton climate, she promotes pollinators, ensuring lush growth and vibrant colors throughout the seasons.
